An Update on Apple's Music Sales

It appears that the article I linked to yesterday was only part of the story. The data shows that Apple was the number one music retailer in the U.S. for January alone, before slipping back to number two in February  (presumably, once everyone had run out of iTunes gift cards from Christmas).

However, in a press clipping released yesterday, Apple still claims that "the iTunes Store surpassed Wal-Mart to become the number one music retailer in the US". It claims that using data from January-February 2008, Apple is still number one on aggregate even after slipping to second place in February.

It probably won't matter by the middle of the year anyway, Apple will have gone so far ahead that there will be no doubt as to who is number one.
